Canon PowerShot SD970 imaging resource (press release)
Canon PowerShot SD970 IS
Overview

by Stephanie Boozer
Review Date: 12/10/09

Canon's Digital ELPH series of cameras has long been a favorite among consumers, as these compact models offer pocketable dimensions backed up by great image quality, good color, and excellent overall performance. Among the newer additions to the line is the PowerShot SD970 IS, which offers a 12.1-megapixel CCD image sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens, an updated DIGIC 4 image processor, and the newest versions of Face Detection, Blink Detection, and Motion Detection technologies.

Biased toward telephoto rather than wide-angle performance, the Canon SD970's zoom ranges from 37 to 185mm (for the comparable PowerShot biased toward wide-angle, try the SD980, whose wide end starts at 24mm).

The Canon PowerShot SD970's smooth contours and small size make it easy to stash in a purse, backpack, diaper bag side pouch, or really just about anywhere you want to take it. Gentle curves ensure it won't snag on pockets, and a tiny wrist strap provides a little added security when you're on the move. Minimal external controls make the Canon SD970 IS easy to maneuver, while its range of intelligent automatic settings yield great results even when you don't want or have the time to twiddle with the controls. No less than 18 preset shooting modes are available to choose from, or you can let the Smart Auto mode do that for you as well. New to Canon's standard preset scene offerings are Zoom Blur and Creative Light Effect modes, which will no doubt provide some refreshing creative tools for consumers.

How do you reduce monitor glare on an LCD screen?
[2008-07-08 20:07:03]
Initialising RAID array...

I just purchased a 22" Acer LCD monitor and I just figured how to let the monitor auto-adjust itself to my liking. However, there is still a "glare" to it that makes images more fuzzy. It really doesn't bother me, but it could be sharper- and it's a tad too bright. Would buying a privacy/anti-glare filter for my monitor help?
There is no source of light nearby, the glare is coming from the monitor itself!

There are many ways to kill glare while using an LCD screen;

1. Sun light is the mother of all glares. Make sure you face your monitor opposite from the direction the sun is comming from, which is in most cases, the window.
2. Do not have any lights near or shining directly onto the Monitor.

Good luck!

How can I check whether my LCD monitor is digital or analog signal?
[2008-09-22 15:04:13]

I recently change my cable line from analog to digital
I would like to make sure my LCD monitor runs with digital signal, how can I check it?
Where does it say, whether analog or digital signal?

If you plug a DVI, (Digital Visual Interface), cable into the DVI port of an LCD monitor, it will be digital. (And plug the other end of the DVI cable, into a DVI port on your computer. Only a dedicated graphics card, has this port!)

Why? Because computers normally put out a digital signal. The signal has to be converted to analog, for a VGA monitor, or a VGA connection on an LCD monitor. An LCD monitor is naturally digital.

1.Computers put out a digital signal ( ALWAYS! )
2.Liquid Crystal Display monitors are DIGITAL.
3.To use a VGA monitor, you are slowing the signal down from your computer.
4.To use a VGA port on an LCD monitor, you are slowing the signal down from your computer.
