Groton Town Talk: Groton Public Library presents Drew Montreuil of www.GrotonWeather.com

The Groton Public Library, 112 E. Cortland St., will host a presentation by Drew Montreuil from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Montreuil is a graduate of the Groton High School Class of 2007 and is at Cornell University studying for his master's degree.

Montreuil is the webhost of www.GrotonWeather.com , starting his site in 2006 as a man who understands our area's microclimate and how it influences our weather. For the library presentation, Drew will talk about the Blizzard of 1993, the "Storm of the Century." Described as one of the largest and most intense storms in a century, the March 12-14, 1993 blizzard paralyzed the eastern seaboard with record cold, snow, and wind.

The Groton Resource Awareness Coalition and the Committee to Preserve the Fingerlakes will sponsor the Community Forum at 7 p.m. Friday at the Groton Elementary School, 516 Elm St.. It will address issues about environmental effects, gas lease problems, prices and availability of gas in the future, health of residents, socio-economic effects on our community, safeguards that Groton can put into place to protect roads and water supplies, and many other issues associated with horizontal hydraulic fracturing that neighboring towns have been dealing with. Speakers are nationally known financial consultant Deborah Rogers and Sandra Steingraber, biologist and author. There will be time for questions from the audience.
