Q: I'm looking to buy a 34 to 42 inch flat screen, high quality, hdtv or plasma or LCD or whatever, Television sometime soon.
Any advice in general for buying/shopping for one?
Would I be better off purchasing it before or after Christmas?
Any advice in particular for buying one in Manhattan?
A: It doesn't really matter if you buy your tv before or after christmas. Most retailers have those price match policy for 1 month for appliances- that if you buy it now for that low price and the price changed after a week, you can then have that price matched if you go to their customer service and show them your receipt.

I have a corner fireplace (that is both gas and burns wood) and I'd like to mount a LCD flat screen television over it. Does anyone know if this can be done without causing damage to the set. Also, does anyone know if these types of sets have termal limitations and if they do, where do you fine these limitations?

The warning follows a study that revealed that 8,000 children in the U.S. are injured by televisions every year.
The Centre for Injury Research and Policy at the Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio found that between 1990 and 2007, 15,000 under-18s visited emergency departments every year after receiving injuries from falling furniture.
According to the study, which was published in Clinical Paediatrics earlier this year, nearly half of these cases involved televisions. In 2002 - the last year for which data was available - 9,300 people visited hospital in the UK after television-related accidents.
Of these, 2,300 were children under the age of five. The most common accident involved a child being struck by a falling television set.
Errol Taylor, of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, which highlighted the U.S. study, said: 'With flat-screen televisions becoming increasingly popular and many families likely to have a new set for Christmas, now is a crucial time to talk about safety.'
