I am going to be dj'ing my family new years party using my laptop, does anyone know of DJ software that I can use to mix songs? I would like a software that I can use to remove the vocals off of songs and leave instrumentals. Is there a software? Thanks

To describe Mixxx is to describe just about any DJ software. Basically it mimics a two-turntable physical setup with two wave displays, two sets of controls, two digital turntables and a fader control. At the bottom there's a list pane that displays all the files in the library, playlists, iTunes playlists, Crates (user libraries such as rock, techno, trance...), etc. You can also record with Mixxx, and there's a separate list of your recordings.

The best things about Mixxx are how easy it is to use and how easy it is to be musical with it. My favorite feature is the automatic beat looping buttons. Clicking one of these automatically creates a loop (from eighth notes to 16 bars) and starts playing it. Hot cues (markers you jump to) are provided and of course you can reverse playback, as well as scrub (play at high speed) in either direction. There are also three shelving EQ buttons that morph into filters (blocking the frequencies that they normally boost) with the simple press of a button.

If you’re just starting out, I’d recommend going with Traktor Pro DJ Software and an external controller. There’s a brand new controller made by Traktor but it’s $ 899 so you can check out other controllers like Hercules or Numark, although I can’t vouch for those. If you’re looking for cdj’s and a mixer, I recommend going with Pioneer, it’s the professional standard, is very durable and will last you a long time, and you can use it professionally for parties....
