Q: Ive heard about microsoft zune, the mp3 player that is able to playback videos and store pictures? Which one is better? Zune or iPod video?
A: I just recently bought an iPod 30 gig for 240 bucks. My brother went out the next day and came back with a Zune 30 gig for 200 dollars. Chalk one up for the zune.
With the iPod, I can only put songs/videos ON it. I cannot take them off without the use of a special program. With the Zune, we can. Chalk another one up for the Zune.
With an iPod, it is IMPOSSIBLE to send tracks from one iPod to another. We can do this with the Zune. One more for the Zune.
The Zune has an FM radio. The iPod, does not.
The Zune's screen is bigger than the iPod's.
WIth the Zune, we can change it's wallpaper without having to play around with it's firmware. We can't do this with iPods.
The Zune has Wi-Fi for the easy downloading of tracks. Wow... the iPod doesn't! What a surprise...
All in all... get the Zune. I feel like killing myself for getting this iPod... :(
I bought a laptop and I downloaded Microsoft Zune on to it and wanted to put my collection of music from my desktop (that has Zune as well) to my laptop. Well I tried but what happened is that the songs that I had were made into the previews not the entire song. So now I'm like wtf. Does anyone have a way to transfer the files with the rights to play the entire song?
News just coming down the pipes today alerted us to some changes Microsoft made in the Zune department. According to CNet:
Microsoft has quietly reorganized its Zune team, splitting up the hardware and software teams. The software and services portion of the Zune team–the bulk of its staff–will be added to the portfolio of Enrique Rodriguez, the vice president who currently runs Microsoft's Mediaroom and Media Center TV businesses. The hardware team, meanwhile, will now report to Tom Gibbons, who also leads the hardware design efforts within Microsoft's Windows Mobile unit.
Interesting to see what will happen with this move, the software end is now in the Mediaroom, which might mean something fancy coming out in new software. The hardware end is now over in Windows Mobile, which may or may not mean some changes to the design of the Zune. According to Enrique Rodriguez, "Zune the service needs to transcend Zune the device." Which may mean that what Microsoft is planning may actually help to break the Zune out of its box.
For those wondering about new Zune models, those will be coming in Fall of 2009.

What are your thoughts on this move? Is this a good move for the zune, or could a better move have been made?
